An odd thing about me is that even though I own all of the Fallout games in my Steam Library, I have only played about an hour of Fallout: New Vegas and an hour of Fallout 4. The others haven’t even been installed. There’s something about the games that just don’t grab me and I have never been able to figure out why. That said, I am looking forward to this TV show from Amazon. I noticed actors that I like such as Walton (Justified/The Shield) Goggins, Kyle (Twin Peaks/Dune) McLachlan, Michael (Lost) Emerson, and Sarita (Jessica Jones) Choudhury. I hope it turns out to be as good as my expectations.
Even though we have seen the “hero gets killed and comes back to like with superpowers” story time and time again (“The Crow”, “Bloodshot”, and “Robocop” are the first that come to mind.), I like the look of this movie. Maybe because it looks unlike a blockbuster film while at the same time doesn’t look cheap, I’m not sure, but there is something that makes me want to see it.
The description: In the slums of the future, virtual reality junkies satisfy their violent impulses in online entertainment. An expert player discovers that the line between games and reality is starting to fade away. 3DAR’s latest short film explores the frightening potential of our next technological revolution.
My take: This short film is one of those things that looks good with a story that may draw you in. However, when you think about the kinds of things they are exploring in the seven or so minutes they take, the whole experience will haunt you. The writer/director Federico Heller is someone to keep an eye on. I highly recommend watching this video and thinking about what you saw, instead of merely consuming and moving on to the next thing.
I think everyone knows by now how I feel about time travel stories. I’m not really a fan. That said, this is pretty entertaining. And it stars Erinn Hayes, one of those actresses who I recognize each time I see her but can never remember her name until the credits. This is definitely worth the five minutes it takes to watch.
I’m watching Invasion (the ABC show from 2005). I like it and think it should have gotten a better break from the viewing public, but I was one of those people who stopped watching after a few episodes so I guess I shoulder some of the blame for its cancellation. I also think Tyler Labine was very underused on the show. I get that he was supposed to only be comic relief but every time it looked like they were going to give his character some depth, he disappeared for long stretches of time.
On a semi-related note, check out Deadbeat on Hulu.com, It’s pretty good.
I’m not going to spoil anything, but it’s a Doctor Who film called “Stone” so I’m pretty sure you can figure out who the protagonists in this are going to be.
